Why This Recipe is the Best and the Perfect Recipe for You
Reason 1: Bake them ahead of time for a seamless grilling experience
My husband loves this ribs recipe a lot. And I mean a lot!
What he loves about it is that it doesn't give him any pressure to perfect his grill skills and leaves him stressless. He doesn't need to measure the internal temperature and he doesn't have to worry about embarrassing himself by serving raw, hard, and chewy ribs on the table.
Because the ribs are already pre-cooked in the oven, there is no stress with these ribs! All he needs to pay attention to is that the outside is crispy and caramelized. With this easy rib recipe, he can focus more on bragging to his friends about his BBQing skills.
Reason 2: Tastes Amazing
At a glance, the recipes seem to be long and require a lot of ingredients. I promise more than half is something you already have in your pantry! Most great tasting ribs and BBQ meat requires a lot of different spice and herbs to give flavour to the meat.
Once you put all the ingredients together for the rub and for the BBQ sauce, your home is going to smell amazing. If you decide to smoke the meat or grill it, it will smell even more amazing once the meat starts to caramelize.
Reason 3: Easy Hands-Off Recipe
95% of the time is sitting back and relaxing while the ribs are slowly baking in the oven. Once it is ready, we do a high-temperature grill just to caramelize the outside of the ribs, so its crispy and tasty.
This recipe is so easy it is dummy-proof. No matter what happens to the ribs after the ribs finish the slow baking in the oven, they will taste good no matter what. This easy fall-off-the-bone ribs recipe is great for beginners who are just starting to experiment with grilling.
The Best tasting Homemade BBQ Sauce
An overly confident statement but it's TRUE! Make the best-tasting BBQ sauce with these ribs, and you're going to fly high with compliments.
The BBQ sauce recipe does call for a few ingredients but they are only there to get that best-tasting BBQ sauce. Moreover, most of the ingredients you need are something you probably have in your pantry.
For some other ingredients you may not have, here are some of my recommendations for those very specific items.
Ingredients for this easy fall-off-the-bone ribs recipe
Liquid Smoke
The liquid smoke I use is the Lazy Kettle All-Natural Concentrated Hickory Liquid Smoke - Love the taste of this liquid smoke a lot! - I also use it on my Cured Salmon Gravlax recipe. It is very concentrated and usually I give five drops of this into the bbq sauce. It gives the famous BBQ taste and a unique smoke taste and has a blend of taste of hickory and mesquite.
Molasse and Brown Sugar
Sugar helps with the caramelisation of the meat. It doesn't really sweeten the meat, but acts a great thickener as well.
The molasses I use is the Plantation Organic Blackstrap Molasses.
The brown sugar I use is the kirkland brand. A great alternative you can buy online is the C&H Cane Sugar on Amazon. The price is affordable and it is an Amazon Choice.
Honey
My choice of honey is again a brand I can only purchase at Costco. A great alternative you can buy on Amazon is Nature Nate's 100% Pure Honey.
Smoke paprika
In my pantry i have both regular paprika and smoked paprika. They are used for different food. For this best rib recipe, we are using smoke paprika.
The one I use is the Smoked Spanish Paprika.
Smirnoff Spicy Tamarind Infused Vodka
I know, a strange thing to put into the BBQ Sauce, but the unexpected ingredient is the one thing that sets apart from good to BEST. In Mexico, this delicious spicy tamarind vodka is easy to find, but if you can't find it in your region, regular dark rum is a good replacement.
Charcoal Grill, Propane Grill, or Smoker Grill for this ribs recipe?
The option is up to you and it also depends on what equipment you have. For the grilling, we just want a high-temperature grill to caramelize the outside of the ribs.
Personally would do a charcoal and smoker grill together. I don't have a fancy grill or a smoker (as you can see below). I'm sure you have something better than me, but let me show you how I set up my grill.
I set up my charcoal grill and get my charcoal hot. I add in some wood for the smoke and to elevate the temperature. The wood in the fire gives the meat a unique taste and it's something even the liquid smoke can't mimic. This is how I do it, and I adore the taste of the ribs after it's been slightly smoked with wood.
I burnt the meat a little, is that okay?
Heck yes! When I say this recipe is easy and dummy-proof, I absolutely mean it! The burnt part of the meat tastes really good with the homemade BBQ sauce. Because there's a lot of sugar in the marinate, it is easy to burn once it's on the grill, but it's also very tasty once it is slightly burnt. You may ask, is the burnt part healthy? Well, that's a different story...
BEST Camping Ribs to Bring
These ribs are slowly oven-baked. After 2.5 hours it is juicy, tender, and done. They can be easily transported, so it's the perfect food to bring on any camping trip!
After a long drive to your campground, I'm sure there are people who are hungry. Usually, two things happen once you get to your campground: tent setup, and firing up the grill. These ribs just need a nice burn on the outside and it is ready to be served! It's quick, easy, and so delicious! People will be surprised (and thankful) at how fast you can make camping food for everyone!
Is that not the perfect camping ribs to bring or what? It's my favourite thing to bring for camping and watch your friends and family bounce back with happiness after eating these delicious ribs!
What to Serve with the Ribs
Here are my favourite things to serve with these delicious fall-off-the-bone ribs with homemade BBQ Sauce:
- Tortilla - a favourite around here in Mexico. A delicious Tortilla is a great choice because people can add condiments to the meat along with the BBQ sauce. Try out Healthy Green Nopales Tortilla.
- potatoes - whether it is mashed potato, baked potato, or even a potato salad, it's a great starchy side that is filling and joyously good with ribs.
- rice - rice is another great starchy side that goes perfectly well with ribs.
- salads - a side of greens can never hurt especially with a rack of ribs. A salad will help with digestion and is a favourite with us. Try our Cold Beet and Avocado Sashimi Appetizer, it goes very well with BBQ food! Or our Sweet Watermelon Salad with Mint, super refreshing and delicious for BBQ parties.
- bread - the best way to soak up the extra BBQ sauce! You can try our popular Rosemary Beer Bread recipe or our Easy Focaccia Bread recipe. Both are excellent and go well with BBQ ribs!

Best BBQ Sauce
- Heat oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Cook and stir the onions in oil for 5 minutes. Stir in water, tomato paste, vinegar, brown sugar, honey, and Worcestershire sauce.
- Season with 2 teaspoons salt, 1/4 teaspoon black pepper, liquid smoke, tamarind liquor / rum, garlic, smoked paprika, dark molasses, rib juice, and 1/2 tablespoon ground chile pepper. - ***DO AHEAD: Ribs can be baked up to 3 days ahead (the flavor will be more developed, and the cold ribs will hold together better on the grill as they heat through).***
Grilling
- Grill ribs, basting with barbecue sauce mixture and turning frequently, until lacquered and charred in places and heated through, 7-10 minutes. Transfer to a cutting board; cut between ribs to separate. Transfer to a platter and serve with additional barbecue sauce.
